Crestfall Studio content policy

Anthology Interactive, LLC (doing business as Crestfall Studio) runs Crestfall Studio, an interactive fiction platform for adults. You write stories with AI characters, you play through them, and you publish what you make for other people to play. This policy states what you may create and publish here, what Crestfall Studio will never generate or host, how the rules are enforced, and what happens when something crosses a line.

This policy is part of the Terms of Service and is written to be read with it. Where the two documents cover the same ground, the stricter rule applies.

1. The two absolutes, and the image rule

Two rules sit above everything else in this policy. They are not preferences. They are not filters you can turn off. Nothing else in this policy, in your account settings, in a purchase, or in an agreement with Crestfall Studio creates an exception to either of them.

1.1 No characters who are or appear under 18 in any sexual or suggestive content

Crestfall Studio does not generate and does not host sexual or suggestive content involving a character who is or appears to be under 18, in text or in images. This rule is about content, not about who is using the platform. It applies to characters you write, characters other people wrote, characters the system produces, and every image, whatever the surrounding story says and however the character is labeled or described.

Crestfall Studio admits only adults. That does not soften this rule in any way. US federal law reaches computer generated images of a minor and content adapted to appear that an identifiable minor is involved, and Texas law separately bars a chatbot impersonating a minor in sexual conversation. Material that appears to be child sexual abuse material is handled under section 7.

1.2 No content presenting a real, identifiable person in intimate scenes

Crestfall Studio does not generate and does not host content that presents a real, identifiable person in intimate scenes, in text or in images. Intimate images of a real person published without consent are also handled under section 8.

1.3 The image rule: no nudity and no depicted sexual acts in images

Separate from the two absolutes, one rule sets the ceiling for images. Crestfall Studio does not generate and does not host images that show nudity or depicted sexual acts. This covers every image on the platform: images the system generates, images a person uploads, character portraits, cover art, profile pictures, and any image shown inside a story or a conversation. There is no setting, no confirmation, no subscription and no purchase that changes this rule. Mature prose between adult characters is allowed under section 4; images stay below this ceiling.

2. Who and what this policy covers

This policy applies to everyone who uses Crestfall Studio, and to everything a person writes, generates, uploads or publishes here: prompts, character definitions, story text, conversation text, images, titles, descriptions, tags, profile text, and messages sent to other users. It applies the same way to private writing and to work you publish for other people.

Accounts are for adults only. Date of birth is collected at signup, before any payment step, and an account that does not clear the adult check cannot be created.

3. One platform, no content tiers

Crestfall Studio runs one standard for every adult account. There are no content tiers, no locked levels, and no separate explicit area of the platform. Everyone sees the same rules, and the rules in section 1 are the only hard walls.

Crestfall Studio is a storytelling product. Its writing, its images and its promotion are offered as interactive fiction, not as adult entertainment and not for sexual gratification. Content submitted or published here is judged in that light.

4. Mature writing

Mature themes in writing are allowed when they serve the story. That includes violence, injury, death, grief, fear, crime, substance use, war, psychological horror, dark subject matter, strong language and romance.

Two limits always hold. First, the rules in section 1, which no story purpose can override. Second, mature writing is written as fiction; material composed to function as sexual gratification material rather than as a story is not what this platform is for.

Sexual content in prose is allowed between characters who are clearly adults, written as part of a story. Fade-to-black is never required, but the writing must serve the fiction. Absolute bars, no exceptions: no characters who are or appear under 18 in any sexual or suggestive content, and no content presenting a real, identifiable person in intimate scenes.

5. Thematic tags and your preferences

Crestfall Studio uses tags, not tiers, to handle taste. Creators apply genre tags and content notes when they publish. Readers set their preferences once, and their feeds and browsing respect those preferences.

Tags filter; they never act as permission. A content note hides a creation from the feeds of people who opted out of that note. It does not gate anything a person opens on purpose, and no tag can be used to publish something the safety filter would refuse.

The genre tags and content notes are published in the product, not in this policy. The list is additive: a tag or note can be added later without changing this policy or anything already published.

6. How the rules are enforced

The safety filter that enforces the rules in section 1 is Crestfall Studio's own build, not a third party rating service. No classifier on the market rates content on the scale Crestfall Studio needs, so Crestfall Studio built and maintains the check itself.

The filter runs before content is generated and again before content is published, on text and on images. A block is final. Support cannot release blocked content, there is no override, and there is no retry path that produces the blocked output. You may tell us that a block looks wrong, and we will review the rule and the pattern behind it, but we will not produce or restore the blocked content.

Beyond the filter, Crestfall Studio reviews reports from users and acts on them under section 9.

7. Child sexual abuse material and reporting

If Crestfall Studio becomes aware of apparent child sexual abuse material on the platform, Crestfall Studio reports it to the CyberTipline operated by the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children as soon as reasonably possible, and preserves the reported material and related records for one year, as US federal law requires of providers.

Accounts involved are suspended or terminated. Where the law requires it, Crestfall Studio also notifies the competent authorities, including notification to European Union authorities of information suggesting an offense that threatens the life or safety of a person.

This is not discretionary and it is not negotiable. There is no appeal that returns the material.

8. Nonconsensual intimate imagery

Crestfall Studio does not allow intimate images of a real, identifiable person published without that person's consent. This includes a digital forgery: an intimate depiction created with software, machine learning or artificial intelligence that is indistinguishable from an authentic image.

If you are the person shown, or you are acting for that person, you can ask us to remove it. Send the request to report@crestfallstudio.com, identify the content, and tell us you did not consent to its publication. On a valid request, Crestfall Studio removes the content within 48 hours of receiving the request, and removes any copies it can identify. The 48-hour clock starts when the request reaches us, and the time of receipt is logged.

This duty applies regardless of the age of the person depicted, and it sits alongside section 1 and section 7, which are stricter.

9. Reporting content, and what happens next

Every content surface on Crestfall Studio carries a report control, and reports can also be sent to report@crestfallstudio.com.

When Crestfall Studio acts on content or on an account, the person affected receives a written statement of reasons. That statement sets out the facts the decision rests on, the ground in this policy or in law that was applied, and the redress available, including how to reply and how to appeal.

Actions available to Crestfall Studio, chosen against the seriousness of the conduct and the record of the account: refusing generation, removing or unpublishing content, restricting a feature, suspending an account, terminating an account, and reporting to the authorities where the law requires it. A first mistake on a judgment call is usually handled with removal and an explanation. A breach of a rule in section 1 is handled at the top of that range.

Appeals are read by a person. An appeal can change a judgment call. An appeal cannot release content blocked under section 1, and it cannot reverse a report required by law under section 7.

10. Characters are AI, and never care providers

Crestfall Studio characters are artificial intelligence, not people. Crestfall Studio tells you this at the start of a conversation and repeats it while a conversation continues.

No character on Crestfall Studio may present itself as therapy, counseling, psychiatry or any licensed mental health care, and no character may claim a professional license, offer a diagnosis, or direct a person's treatment. Several states regulate that conduct directly. Creators must not build characters that hold themselves out this way, and Crestfall Studio removes characters that do, whoever made them.

11. Self harm content and the crisis referral

Crestfall Studio does not produce self harm content, and content that encourages, instructs in or glorifies suicide or self harm is not allowed here.

Crestfall Studio runs automated detection for suicidal ideation and self harm. When it fires, a referral to crisis services is shown in the conversation, including the 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline in the United States. The full protocol is published as a separate page and is linked from the site footer.

Writing about grief, despair, loss or a character in crisis is allowed. The line is content that functions as instruction or encouragement, which is not.

12. Users in the European Union

The rules above are the content rules referred to in the Terms of Service, and this page is where they are stated.

Crestfall Studio publishes a point of contact for users and for authorities on its contact page. Users write to support@crestfallstudio.com. Authorities write to legal@crestfallstudio.com, which is also the German youth protection contact. Reports of nonconsensual intimate imagery go to report@crestfallstudio.com and are handled under section 8.

13. Coins

Coins are the in-product currency. Removing content or acting on an account under this policy is a policy action, not a purchase decision. How coins are treated when content is removed or an account is suspended is stated in the Refund Policy.

If we close your account for breaking these rules, unspent coins are forfeited. If we close your account for any other reason, including ending the service or leaving your country, we refund unspent purchased coins; earned and bonus coins are not refunded.

14. Changes to this policy

Crestfall Studio may update this policy as the product and the law change. Material changes are posted on this page with a new version number, and the current version and date sit at the top of the page.

15. Contact

Report content through the report control on the content itself, or write to report@crestfallstudio.com. Nonconsensual intimate imagery requests go to the same address and are handled under section 8, within 48 hours. For anything else, write to support@crestfallstudio.com.
